Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Suffolk in Shootout

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. - The Curry College men's ice hockey team fell to Suffolk University in a shootout Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink.

The contest will officially go into the record books as a 3-3 tie. The shootout result will only be reflected in the CCC standings. Curry's overall record moves to 4-0-1 with the tie, and 2-0-0-1 in CCC play.

Curry wasted no time getting on the board, as Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland) found the back of the net just 1:57 in. George Vonakis (Abingdon, Md.) and Eelis Laaksonen (Oulu, Finland) earned assists on the goal. 

Suffolk scored twice in the first period however to head to the locker room with a 2-1 lead.

Second period goals from Vilhelm Peltonen (Helsinki, Finland) and Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) gave Curry a 3-2 lead heading into the third. Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.), Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia), and Tyler Lindstrom (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) were credited with assists in the second.

Suffolk netted the only goal of the third period, and the only goal in the shootout as the Rams skated away with the extra CCC point.

Curry senior goaltender Reid Cooper (Corman Park, Sask.) was credited with the tie between the pipes, turning away 23 of the 26 shots he faced.

The rematch between Curry and Suffolk will take place Saturday evening with a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Canton Ice House.
