Hockey Rolls Past Becker

CANTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team rolled past Becker College, 6-1, on Friday evening at the Canton Ice House. With the win, the Colonels improve to 4-1-0 overall and 2-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) while the loss drops the Hawks to 1-4-0 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Becker was first to get on the board in the first period just 1:06 into the frame. Freshman Ian Zaleski (Boise, Idaho) notched the games' opening goal with the assists coming from junior Romain Wild (Mex, Switzerland) and sophomore Jason Diamond (Lakeville, Conn.). Curry answered the Hawk goal with four straight tallies, all coming from different players. Sophomore Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Texas), senior Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.), and sophomores Nick Magill-Diaz (Troy, Mich.) and Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland) all found the back of the net for the Colonels as they built a 4-1 lead after one.

Freshman Austin Whelan (Richmond Hills, Ontario) added the lone marker of the second period off a helper from freshman Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) to increase the advantage to 5-1.

Curry then added the final marker on a goal by sophomore Tarek Paranica (Grand Fork, N.D.), which came off a pass from Sundell as the game ended in the 6-1 final.

The Colonels outshot the Hawks, 46-19 for the contest.

Curry senior Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) recorded 18 saves in net for the win. Becker senior Cody Foster (Saugus, Calif.) was credited with the loss while converting 20 saves.

Curry will conclude a home-and-home series with the Hawks tomorrow Saturday, November 16 at the Worcester Ice Center. Puck drop is set for 6:20 p.m.
