No. 14 Hockey Captures Inaugural Game at Canton Ice House

CANTON, Mass. – The No. 14 Curry College men's ice hockey team returned to the win column and defeated Endicott College by a 2-1 final on Saturday afternoon at the Canton Ice House in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.

After a scoreless first period, freshman Zach Mazur (Lancaster, N.Y) capitalized off of a misplay from behind the Colonels' net and found classmate Svet Kuchynski (Minsk, Belarus) with 14:03 left in the second frame. Curry answered the Gulls' goal just over a minute later when freshman Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) scored off helpers from junior Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Texas).

Jansson found himself back in the action for the game-winner with just over three and a half minutes remaining in regulation. Ochterbeck sent a backhand pass in front of the net, which found Jansson on the doorstep for the eventual game-winner and the 2-1 victory. Curran was also awarded an assist on the marker.

Endicott held the advantage in the shots, 40-33. The Colonels were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Gulls were 0-for-6.

Senior goaltender Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) recorded 39 saves in net in the victory. Sophomore Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) converted 31 stops in the setback.

Curry (3-1-0 overall, 1-1-0 CCC) returns to action on Friday, November 15 as they welcome in Becker College in for a 6:50 p.m. start at the Canton Ice House. Endicott (2-1-0 overall, 1-1-0 CCC) will play the road half of a home-and-home series with Nichols on Friday at 6:40 for its next contest.
