Ice Hockey Claims 4-4 Tie at No. 6 Salve Regina

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – Behind four different scorers, the Curry College men's ice hockey team drew a 4-4 tie with No. 6 Salve Regina University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference showdown Friday evening at the Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink

With the tie, the Colonels remain undefeated (3-0-2, 2-0-1 CCC) while the Seahawks own a 1-1-1 mark and are 1-1-1 in the CCC.  Anthony Trujillo (Toronto, Ontario) led the Colonels offense with two points in the eight-goal, back-and-forth contest saw three different lead changes in the contest.

Salve Regina took an early 1-0 advantage at the 7:20 mark of the opening period as Timothy Sweeney (Hanover, Mass.) knocked in his first goal of the season with the assist by Kyle Moore (Cumming, Ga.).

The Colonels tied the game at 1-1 on Trujillo's first goal of the 2018-19 campaign. Tristan Morin (Unionville, Conn.) and Kalle Sundell (Helsiniki, Finland) earned assists on the game-tying play, with 3:10 left in the first period.  Less than 90-seconds later, Curry claimed a 2-1 lead behind Tyler Lindstrom's (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) first goal of the year on a perfectly-place saucer pass by Trujillo.

In the second period, scoring between both schools continued at a frantic pace.  Salve Regina regained the 3-2 lead over Curry early in the frame with a short-handed goal by Paul Boutoussov (Dana Point, Calif.) and power-play goal by Vicenzo Renda (Westmount, Quebec).

Curry bounced back and seized a 4-3 lead with the period's final two goals.  Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Tex.) tallied his second goal of the year with assists by Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) and Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) at 6:56 mark of the period.   With the help of Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ontario), Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) added his third goal of the season with 2:18 left in the period.

Salve Regina tied the game, 4-4, on George Sennot's (North Andover, Mass.) power-play goal with 11:38 left in the game.

Colonels goaltender Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) (1-0-1) scattered 32 saves on 36 shots while Salve Regina's netminder, Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) (1-1-1) made 23 saves on 27 shots.

The Curry College ice hockey team hosts Salve Regina in CCC action on Saturday, November 10 at 4:50 p.m. at Max Ulin Rink.
