Hockey Edged at CCC Foe Nichols College, 5-4

HARRISVILLE, R.I. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team fell to host Nichols College, 5-4, on Saturday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Levy Rink. The loss drops the Colonels to 6-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference while the win improves the Bison to 7-5-2 on the season and 5-3-2 against conference opponents.

Nichols sophomore J.B. Baker recorded his first collegiate hat trick in the victory and dished out an assist to lead all scorers with four points.  Junior Matthew Menta and sophomore Vincent Crivello each picked up a goal and an assist for the Bison while senior captain Scott Cuthrell dished out two helpers.

For Curry, senior Adam Valadao led in points with two assists.  Seniors Jarrett Kup and Shane Tracy, along with freshmen Brandon Zajicek and Tristan Moran, each scored once for the Colonels.

Baker scored twice in a span of 4:53 to give the Devils a 3-2 lead early in the third period. After the Colonels tied the game at three on Morin's first collegiate goal at 7:11 of the third, Baker banged in a pass from Cuthrell to make it 4-3. Later in the frame, Crivello netted his sixth goal of the campaign on a breakaway to push the lead to 5-3.

Freshman netminder Henry Burns turned aside 23 shots to move to 3-2-0 on the season. Freshman Frank Cundiff made 15 saves to fall to 5-5-1 overall.

The Colonels outshot the Bison 27-20 and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
