MILTON, Mass. – A new initiative of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) recognizes varsity ice hockey players who averaged a 3.6 GPA and participated in 40% of their school's games during the 2016-17 season. The Colonels were atop the CCC with 14 student-athletes hockey players achieving this status.
The members include:
Freshman: Jordan Williamson, Alec Mono and Anthony Trujillo
Sophomores: Lionel Mauron and Mack Heisinger
Juniors: Ryan Fitzgerald, Phil Kiss, Jarret Kup and Shane Tracy
Seniors: Robert Cammalleri, Jake Heisinger, Ellery O'Hara, Brett Sinclair and Tyler Vankleef
Of the 14 players from the 2016-17 Colonels Men's Ice Hockey Team to receive this distinct honor, nine of them are returning players. It is very important to the Colonels program that not only are the players hard working on the ice but hard working in the classroom as well. "I am very proud of the effort my players put forward in their academic pursuits," said Head Coach TJ Manastersky. "Our culture is about building leaders and preparing young men to be successful when they graduate Curry College. Results like this speak to the commitment and buy-in they have towards our team culture. This is a tremendous honor".
The Colonels look to be back atop the CCC with excellent performances in the classroom this upcoming season, as well as on the ice. The opening puck drop is set for October 27 at Max Ulin Arena against UMass Dartmouth at 6:50 p.m.
