Hockey Knocks Off Suffolk University 6-3 in CCC Action

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. --  Sophomore Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) netted a pair of power play goals to lead Curry to a 6-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference men's ice hockey victory over Suffolk Saturday evening at O'Neil Rink.

Markers by Mauron and junior Adam Valadao (Ajax, Ont.) in the opening 10:30 of action staked the visiting Colonels (12-7-2, 9-3-2 Commonwealth Coast) to an early 2-0 advantage, but sophomore Brendan Heinze (Danville, N.H.) sliced the host Rams' (5-11-4, 3-9-2 Commonwealth Coast) deficit in half just 2:24 later with his third tally of the season.  Curry took control of the contest with three goals in the opening 8:28 of the middle period, as junior Robert Cammalleri (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and sophomore Zachery White (Milford, Conn.) scored just 1:03 apart early in the frame before Mauron added his second man-advantage marker of the night for a 5-1 Colonel lead.  A late second period tally by junior Jack Jenkins (Billerica, Mass.) that was followed by an early third period goal off the stick of sophomore Connor Parent (Danvers, Mass.) enabled Suffolk to close back to within a pair at 5-3, but senior Sean Nelson's (Brighton, Mich.) marker with 7:03 to play iced the visitors' triumph and accounted for the final margin.

Valadao and White each notched a goal and an assist in the win for Curry, which also received three helpers off the stick of senior Jake Heisinger (Winnipeg, Man.).  Juniors Phil Kiss (Burlington, Ont.) and Jarret Kup (Rosseau, Ont.) each collected two assists for the Colonels, who also received a helper from freshman Joseph DiBenedetto (Anchorage, Ak.).  Junior Luke Miller (Lancaster, Calif.) and sophomores Mikhail Bryan (Dayton, Ohio), Justin Holliday (Stow, Ohio), Tommy Bishop (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Connor Henry (Trumbull, Conn.) all notched assists in the setback for Suffolk, which also received a helper from freshman Brian Brooks (Canton, Mass.).

Senior Brett Sinclair (St. Catharine's, Ont.) picked up his 10th win of the season in goal for Curry with a 21-save effort, while senior Kevin Venturoso (Franklin, Mass.) suffered the setback between the pipes for Suffolk after making seven saves in the opening 22-plus minutes of play.  Sophomore Michael Levine (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) recorded 20 stops over the final 37-plus minutes of action for the hosts, as the Colonels outshot the Rams by a 33-24 margin for the contest.

Suffolk heads to Beverly, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Endicott in a Commonwealth Coast Conference clash that faces off at 7:00 p.m., while Curry travels to Pawtucket, R.I. on Thursday evening for a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest with Johnson & Wales that begins at 6:55 p.m. (Game Recap Courtesy of Suffolk Sports Information)
