Hockey Takes Care of Becker College, 5-2, in ECAC Northeast Action

Marlboro, Mass. – The Becker College men's ice hockey team fell, 5-2 to Curry College in Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Northeast action on Saturday afternoon at New England Sports Center. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-19 (1-12 ECAC NE) overall, while Curry moves to 13-9-2 (6-6-1 ECAC NE) on the season.

The Hawks picked up goals from sophomore Kyle Godfrey (Geneva, Ill.) and Connor Merrick (Manchester, NH).  Senior Jordan Reed (Ajax, Ont.) led Curry with four goals.

Reed potted a pair of goals in the first period to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead at the end of the stanza.  Sophomore James Murphy (Malden, Mass.) earned a pair of assists, setting Reed up at the 6:16 mark and at 9:58 for a power-play tally.

Curry would add to the lead quickly in the second period, extending the score to 3-0 just 1:11 on Reeds third of the game. The Hawks broke its scoring silence when Godfrey poked in a rebound for his fifth goal on the season as Merrick and Conner Allison (Hillsboro, Ore.) assisted on the play to make the score 3-1. Merrick would tip the twine at the 12:28 mark to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Curry would score a backbreaker with just seven seconds remaining in the frame to push the lead to 4-2 heading into the third period.

Becker would post 13 shots in the third with several good chances but Curry goaltender Derek Mohney was solid in net and shutout the Hawks over the final 20:00 minute. Curry would add an empty net goal for the 5-2 final.

Becker held a slight advantage in shots 34-28 but was 0-for-9 on the power-play. Curry was 1-for-3 with the man-advantage.
