Hockey Shuts Out Conference Rival Wentworth, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Three different players had a goal and an assist and sophomore Brett Sinclair (St. Catharine, Ont.) made 27 saves to record the shutout as the Curry College hockey team won its third straight contest with a 3-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in ECAC Northeast action at Walter Brown Arena.

With the win Curry stands at 12-9-2 overall and 5-6-1 in league play while the Leopards slip to 10-11-2 (5-6-1).

After a scoreless first period, Curry got the only goal it would need thanks to junior Shane Harrington (Mansfield, Mass.). After a small skirmish in front of the net, the Colonels freed the puck out to freshman Phil Kiss (Burlington, Ont.) at the point, who then connected with Harrington in the right circle. Harrington fired a shot top shelf left side for the 1-0 lead halfway through the second. Despite outshooting Curry 11-6 in the period, Wentworth couldn't tie the score.

Curry extended its lead to two less than four minutes into the third period. Sophomore Sean Nelson (Brighton, Mich.) threw a shot to the back of the net with assists from freshman Ryan Fitzgerald (Cary, N.C.) and Kiss. Wentworth pulled junior goalie Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.) in the final minutes, but the Colonels halted the Leopard offense and scored an empty netter thanks to Fitzgerald. Sinclair made key saves in the final minutes to preserve the shutout and victory.

Fitzgerald, Harrington, and Nelson each had a goal and an assist while Kiss picked up a pair of assists. Miller made 20 saves in net as the Leopards outshot the Colonels by a 27-23 margin.

Both teams continue league play on Saturday as Wentworth is at Suffolk and Curry is at Becker.  (Game Recap Courtesy of Wentworth Sports Information)
