Hockey Shut Out 3-0 by Visiting Western New England in ECAC Northeast Action

MILTON, Mass. - In an ECAC Northeast Conference match-up in men's ice hockey on Saturday afternoon at the Max Ulin Rink in Milton, visiting Western New England shut out Curry, 3-0. With the win, the Golden Bears improved to 9-12 overall and 6-4 in league play. The Colonels fell to 9-10-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the ECAC Northeast.

Western New England tallied a single goal in each period. The visitors got on the board at 13:50 of the first when sophomore Brandon Stroud (Clarksville, Ind.) collected a short-handed goal with an assist to junior Brian Prost (Parma, Ohio).

At 15:54 of the middle frame, Golden Bears’ sophomore Matt Dore (Shelburne, Mass.) beat Curry sophomore goaltender Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.) with an even-strength goal to increase the visitors’ lead to 2-0. Freshman Ryan Taylor (Canfield, Ohio) and sophomore Nick Diorio (Newington, Conn.) got the assists on Dore’s tally.

WNE completed the scoring at 12:09 of the third, as junior Dan Monahan (Monroe, N.Y.) netted a power-play goal with an assist from classmate Chris Connors (Clifton Park, N.Y.).

The Colonels outshot the Golden Bears, 26-22. WNE went 1 for 5 on the power play, while Curry went 0 for 4.

Golden Bears’ junior net minder Eric Sorenson (Fairport, N.Y.) earned the shutout, turning aside all 26 shots he faced. Mohney collected 19 saves in the loss.

Curry's next game is away at ECAC Northeast opponent Salve Regina on Wednesday, February 6 at 7:35 p.m.  Western New England travels to ECAC Northeast opponent Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, February 6 for a 7:45 p.m. game start.
