Hockey Edged, 3-2, at Nichols College

HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Feb. 11) – Senior goalie Jacob Rinn amassed 29 saves as Nichols emerged with a 3-2 triumph Saturday afternoon over league-leading Curry in an ECAC Northeast men's ice hockey matchup. With the win, Nichols improves to 10-12-1 on the season and 8-4-0 in conference action. The Colonels dip to 12-9-2 overall and 10-2-0 in the loop.

The first period ended in a stalemate as each team put a tally on the scoreboard. Nichols sounded the horn at 13:56 into the contest as first-year Louie Educate scored as he sent in a one-timer past a diving goalie. Junior Zach Kohn began the sequence as he dished the puck to sophomore Robbie Sorrenti to setup the strike.

Curry evened the game with 44 seconds left in the frame. Sophomore Joshua Pineiro fired the puck past the glove of the Nichols netminder after collecting a blocked shot taken by senior Ryan Barlock. Senior Payden Benning sent the original pass to Barlock.

Nichols regained the lead at 6:06 in the second frame as sophomore Blake Bishop's slap shot found an opening on the low glove side. First-year Mike Schiavone doled out the assist for the Bison.

After a save by Rinn, junior Bryan Gill sent a pass to Educate who sent the puck home on the glove side following a 3-on-1 for the eventual game-winner.

With 2:40 left and a 3-1 deficit, the Colonels pulled their netminder in favor of an extra skater. At 19:22 the move proved fruitful as sophomore Brad Devereaux avoided traffic and slipped the puck in the net off a rebound. Barlock had the initial shot that was collected by rookie Jordan Reed who took a shot setting up the opportunity for Devereaux.

Junior goalie Joe Dawson turned away 24 for the Colonels.

Prior to the game, a ceremony was held to honor the accomplishments of the program's four seniors, Andrew Letellier, Andrew Ella, Zach Hendrickson and Rinn as part of “Senior Day.”

Nichols is on the road for its final two regular season games. The Bison take on Johnson & Wales at 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday and Western New England on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Curry will head to Wentworth on Wednesday for an 8:00 p.m. showdown and will wrap up the regular season hosting Johnson & Wales on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. (Game Recap Courtesy of Nichols College Sports Information)
