Hockey Battles New England College to a 1-1 Overtime Tie

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College tied New England College, 1-1 in overtime, in men's ice hockey action on Tuesday night in Milton, Mass,.  The Colonels moved to 10-7-2 overall. The Pilgrims now hold an 8-7-4 record.

The first period went scoreless with both goaltenders playing solid in net.  The Colonels outshot the Pilgrims 11-8.  NEC’s sophomore netminder Sebastian Anderson (Sundyberg, Sweden) made eight saves for the Pilgrims.  Curry’s junior goaltender Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.) made 11 saves for the Colonels. 

Curry took an early lead just 2:39 into the second frame.  Freshman Robert Kleiman (DeWitt, Mich.) registered the goal off assists from junior Greg Fosso (East Meadow, N.Y.) and freshman Nathan Hardiman (Stoughton, Mass.).  Mohney kept the Pilgrims scoreless making eight saves.  Curry outshot New England, 16-8. 

Curry held onto their 1-0 lead, until late in the final period.  NEC tied the game at the 14:13 mark.  Senior Niko Uola (Turku, Finland) tipped in the puck in front of the net past Mohney.  Senior Nick Payson (Veazie, Maine) was credited with the assist.  The two teams battled over the next 5:37 minutes but neither was able score the game-winner in regulation.

In overtime, the Pilgrims outshot the Colonels 4-1 which was the only period NEC finished with more shots.  Curry held a 46-30 total advantage in shots over 65:00 minutes of play.   

Both teams were 0 for 6 on power-plays. 

Curry's Mohney made 29 saves in goal, while NEC’s Anderson made 45 saves.

Curry's next game is at home in an ECAC Northeast conference matchup on Thursday, February 2 at 7:35 p.m.  NEC hosts, Saint Michael’s on Friday, February 3 for a 7:00 p.m. game start.
