Hockey Downs Becker College, 6-1, in ECAC Northeast Action

MILTON, Mass.- In an ECAC Northeast Conference match-up in men's ice hockey action on Thursday night in Milton, Mass, Curry College defeated Becker College, 6-1.  With the win, the Colonels improved to 9-7-1 overall and remain undefeated at 7-0 in the conference. The Hawks fell to 7-10-1 overall and 2-5-0 in the ECAC Northeast.

The Colonels were the first to get on the board 8:24 into the first period.  Junior Casey Brugman (Winthrop, Mass.) scored his first of the night off assists from junior Connor Hendry (Calgary, Alberta) and freshman Jordan Reed (Ajax, Ont.).  Senior Ryan Barlock (Chicago, Ill.) was called for holding with just 1:43 left to play but the Colonels were able to take a two goal lead on a short-handed goal.  Junior Ian DeLong (Kutztown, Pa.) won the face-off in the Curry zone and the team went on a 3v2 down the ice.  DeLong scored the short-handed while senior John Williams (Flourtown, Pa.) and sophomore Joshua Pineiro (Huntington, Calif.) were credited with the assists.  The Colonel’s junior goaltender Joe Dawson (Woodbury, Minn.) kept the Hawks scoreless making 11 saves.  Becker’s senior netminder Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 16 saves.

Curry was able to put up three more goals in the second period to take a demanding 5-0 lead.  Their third score of the night came just 46 seconds into the frame on a power-play goal by Reed.  Pineiro earned his second assist and Barlock was awarded the secondary.  The Colonels registered another power-play score 4:14 minutes later by senior Payden Benning (Estevan, SK).  Pineiro and Barlock once again were on the assists.  Curry’s fifth goal came from freshman Robert Kleiman (DeWitt, Mich.) who took a slap shot from just over the blueline past Rosenthal.  Sophomore Michael Sullivan (Newton, Mass.) was on the assist.  Curry outshot Becker 18-9. 

The final period saw each team scoring just one goal apiece.  The Hawks were able to get on the board at the 5:22 mark off a score by sophomore Korey Anderson (Owantonna, Minn.).  Anderson collected a loose puck in front of the net and shot it past freshman goaltender Luc Montoni (Newbury, Mass.).  Montoni replaced Dawson in net late in the second period.  Anderson’s goal was assisted by junior David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and junior Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.).  Curry’s sixth and final goal of the game was scored by junior Greg Fosso (East Meadow, N.Y.).  Reed was credited with the assist, his second of the night. 

The Colonels went 3 for 7 on power-plays, while the Hawks went 0 for 7.

Curry's Dawson made 18 saves in 35:18 minutes in goal for the win.  Montoni made nine saves in 24:42 minutes in net.  Becker’s Rosenthal took the loss in net making 40 saves.
