Hockey Knocked Off 5-2 at Hobart College

GENEVA, N.Y.--First-year Tommaso Traversa (Torino, Italy) scored three goals in the third period including the game-winner to lead the Hobart College hockey team to a 5-2 win over Curry in a non-conference game played tonight at The Cooler. The Statesmen improved their record to 6-6-0 this season.

Juniors David Stevens (Toronto, Ontario) and Brad Richard (New Bedford, Mass.) each tallied a goal and an assist. Junior Marty Ausserhofer (Brunico, Italy) picked up his fifth victory of the season in goal playing all 60 minutes and stopping 20 shots. Derek Mohney played 59:16 in goal for the Colonels and made 24 saves. Curry falls to 7-4-0.

The Statesmen got on the board first when Stevens scored his second goal of the year off an assist from sophomore Keith Clarke (Westmeath, Ontario). The Colonels answered 5:03 into the second period, when George Isham was able to capitalize on a power-play. Payden Benning and Ryan Barlock earned the assists.

Curry took its first lead of the game when John Williams logged a short handed tally at 7:40 in the second. Richard tied the game at two with 21 seconds left in the middle period. It was his fourth goal of the season. Stevens and first-year Ryan Michel (Camillus, N.Y.) set up the play.

In the third period the Statesmen took back control of the game. Traversa scored all three goals for the final.

He started things off putting Hobart back on top just 1:31 into the period. First-year Peter Ryan (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was credited with the assist. Just 2:27 later, Richard set up another Traversa goal. With 36 seconds left in the game, Traversa secured his hat trick with an empty net goal after a pass from sophomore Tommy Fiorentino (New Hartford, N.Y.) . He now shares a team-high with five goals this year.

Hobart held a 29-22 advantage in shots. The Statesmen were 0-for-4 on the power play. Curry went 1-for-5.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 7 when the Statesmen host Brockport State for another non-conference game at 4 p.m. The Colonels also play tomorrow, Jan 7 when they travel to Utica College for a 7:00 p.m. game start. (Game Recap Courtesy of Hobart Sports Information)
