Hockey Downs Nichols College, 6-1 For Their Third Straight Win

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Nichols College 6-1, in men's ice hockey action on Thursday night in Milton, Mass.  The Colonels improve to 12-7-3 overall and 8-1-2 in the ECAC Northeast, while the Bison fall to 11-10-1 and 5-6-0 in the ECAC Northeast.

The Colonels were the first to get on the board in the opening frame just 1:47 into the first Curry’s first of three short-handed goals.  Junior Shane Geib (Stony Plain, AB) was called for a slash at the 00:52 mark.  Sophomore Casey Brugman (Winthrop, MA) intercepted a pass from a Nichols defender and scored unassisted.  The Colonels took a 2-0 lead when sophomore Brett Kaneshiro (Laguna Niguel, CA) capitalized on a power-play situation.  Senior Ryan Warsofsky (Marshfield, MA) and junior Payden Benning (Estevan, SK) were credited with the assists.   Curry outshot Nichols 17-6 in the period.

Curry scored four goals in the second, including two more short-handed.  Sophomore George Isham(Lake Bluff, IL) opened up the scoring five minutes into the period on an assist from junior Michael Curran (Arlington, MA).  The Colonels next two goals were on the Bison’s power-play.  Freshman Michael Lopez (Newton, MA) scored his first of the game just 18 seconds into the Nichols penalty with Brugman on the assist.  Junior John Williams (Flourtown, PA) scored the fifth goal for Curry with junior Ryan Barlock (Niles, IL) assisting his first of two on the night.  The Bison finally got on the board at 14:52 with their own power-play goal.  Senior Will Munson (Corona, CA) took a slap shot from the blue line that sailed past sophomore goaltender Robert Dawson (Woodbury, MN).  Junior Andrew Letellier (Saco, ME) and freshman Blake Bishop (Parker, CO) were on the assists.  The Colonels sixth and final goal came from Benning when he received a pass from Barlock and one-timed the puck into the back of the net.  

The Colonels finished with a total of 49 shots and the Bison 28. 

Nichols used all three dressed goaltenders. Sophomore Ryan Casey (Pelham, NH) played 31:59 minutes and made 22 saves allowing four goals.  Junior Jacob Rinn (Warwick, RI) played 8:01 minutes and made four saves allowing two goals.  Freshman Dylan Woodring (Rogue River, OR) played in net for 20 minutes and made 17 saves.  Curry’s goaltender Dawson made 27 saves for the win. 

Curry's next game is away on Saturday, February 12 at Salve Regina for a 7:00 p.m. start.  Nichols travels to Suffolk on Saturday, February 12 also for a 7:00 p.m. game start.
