Barlock Scores Game-Winner as Hockey Slips Past Western New England 3-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore defenseman Ryan Barlock scored the game-winner with 3:22 remaining as the Curry men’s hockey team rallied for a 3-2 victory over Western New England College in an ECAC Northeast contest Thursday night (Feb. 4) at Smead Arena.

The Colonels, who defeated WNEC 5-0 in their earlier meeting last November 19, are now 14-5-1 overall and undefeated in the league with an 8-0-1 mark.  The Golden Bears fall to 2-16-1 overall and 1-8 in the conference.

Western New England College took a 1-0 lead when freshman forward Nico Santaniello (East Longmeadow, MA) scored on a power play goal 2:39 into the game with assists from junior forward Vin Weyel (North Haven, CT) and freshman forward Blake Lucier (Scarborough, ME).

The visitors tied the game on a goal by freshman forward George Isham who connected on a power play shot at the 6:27 mark.

Neither team scored in the idle period until WNEC went ahead 2-1 when sophomore forward Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) fired home a shot just 34 seconds into the final period.

Isham again knotted the game at the 9:37 mark with assists from freshman forward Connor Hendry and sophomore forward Shane Geib. That set the stage for Barlock who netted the winning shot as sophomore forward John Williams  assisted.

Senior goalie Zachary Cardellacompiled 27 saves in his
seventh start of the season.

WNEC freshman T.J. Fatse (Hampden, MA) stopped 34 shots in his seventh
appearance of the year.
