Hockey Slips Past Johnson & Wales, 3-2

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University hockey squad dropped a 3-2 decision against Curry in an ECAC Northeast Contest at the Rhode Island Sports Center on Thursday evening.
 
Freshman Max Carter (Royal Oak, Mich.) got Johnson & Wales on the board first with a power play goal just 7:15 into the contest. Curry’s George Isham then tied the game with a power play goal of his own at the 13:14 mark. The teams would head to the locker room toed 1-1 after the first period of play.
 
Curry took the 2-1 lead early in the second period when sophomore Payden Benning tallied a goal at the 2:59 mark. The Wildcats responded, however when Carter notched his second goal of the game to knot the game at 2-2 at the 10:52 mark. After two periods of play, the teams were deadlocked 2-2.
 
The visiting Colonels struck just 3:16 into the third stanza on a power play goal by sophomore Ryan Barlock giving the team the 3-2 lead. That would be all the scoring for the evening as Curry held on for the one goal victory.
 
Freshman Matt Cooper (Perrysburg, Ohio) had 30 saves in the setback for Johnson & Wales while senior Steven Jakiel made 30 stops for Curry in the victory.
 
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 6-12 for the season and 3-4 in the ECAC Northeast while Curry improves to 12-5-1, 6-0-1 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, January 30th when they travel to Suffolk for an ECAC Northeast contest, starting at 4:20 p.m.
