BEVERLY, Mass. - Two Curry College men's basketball players earned Conference of New England Postseason Awards, which the league office announced on Thursday afternoon. The awards highlight some of the best programs and players in the conference.
Freshman guard Jaiden Mann earned CNE Rookie of the Year for his outstanding opening campaign for the Curry College men's basketball team. Mann was the Colonels' leading scorer with 349 total points on 46.5 percent shooting from the field, knocking down 39 three pointers throughout the year, shooting 35.5 percent from behind the arc, and 71.1 percent from the free throw line. Mann ranked third on the team in rebounds and assists with 86 and 34, while leading the squad with 35 steals. Mann dropped over 30 points in four games this season, including a 43 point performance against Western New England, the most ever scored by a rookie in a single game and the third most all-time.
In addition to the major awards and all-conference teams, the CNE also announced its new Community Service Team, highlighting one student-athlete per institution who demonstrates a commitment to their community. Each winner was picked and nominated by each program's head coach. Junior Shawn Charles was the Curry recipient of the award. Charles was an integral part of the Curry gameplan. The 6' 8" forward led the team in blocked shots with 45, and the next closest player on the Colonels was Jake Bernardo with nine. He also led the team with 121 rebounds.
