Men's Basketball Dropped by Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's basketball team fell 64-40 to the Wentworth Institute of Technology in its Commonwealth Coast Conference opener Wednesday night at Tansey Gymnasium.

With the defeat, Curry falls to 1-5 overall on the season and 0-1 in the CCC.

Wentworth took a nine-point lead into the break after a low-scoring 24-15 opening 20 minutes. Freshman Derrick Thomas Jr. (Fitchburg, Mass.) led the Colonels with seven points off the bench in the first half.

The Leopards did not look back after the intermission as Curry's offensive woes continued. Eight points from senior Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) and seven points from junior Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.) in the second half were not enough for the Colonels to finish the comeback as Wentworth sealed the victory.

Torres finished the evening as Curry's leading scorer with nine points to go along with a pair of steals. Thomas Jr. had seven points and a team-high four steals, while freshman Shawn Charles (Miami, Fla.) led Curry with five boards.

Next up for the Colonels, they will continue CCC play with a road trip to Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from Rhode Island is slated for 3 p.m.
