Men's Basketball Outlasts Lynx

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Men's Basketball defeated non-conference opponent Lesley University in Katz Gymnasium Thursday evening by a final score of 87-67.

With the win, the Colonels move forward with an overall record of 1-4.

The Colonels dominated the visiting Lynx through the opening 11 minutes, freshman guard Tommy Mallinson (Wilmington, Mass.) capping off the 28-9 scoring run with a three-pointer. The visiting Lynx chipped away at the Colonels' lead, bringing the score within 13 points on a Scott Barlow three-pointer. Curry freshman forward Carl Monplaisir (Vero Beach, Fla.) sent his side into the halftime break up 42-32 on a successful shot from the field. 

The visiting Lesley University Lynx kept the matchup interesting in the second half, surging forth to come within seven points of the Colonels. Following the Lynx's scoring run, threes from Curry's Lowelle Torres (Vineland, N.J.), Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.), and Tommy Mallinson granted the Colonels a substantial lead with under 13 minutes to play. 

With under ten minutes remaining in regulation, Lesley University brought the score to 62-57 in favor of the Colonels. Immediately following the Lesley score, Curry's junior forward Lowelle Torres electrified Katz Gymnasium on a back-door dunk over the heads of multiple Lynx in the paint. The dunk by Torres granted the Colonels unmatched momentum, defeating the visiting Lynx by 20 points, 87-67.

The Colonels were led by senior guard Angelo Sardegna (20 points, 5 rebounds), Lowelle Torres (18 points, 6 rebounds), and Tommy Mallinson (17 points, 4 rebounds).

The Colonels return to the court Wednesday (11/30) as they travel to Wentworth for CCC action slated for 7:30 PM.
