Men's Basketball Falls to Gordon College in First Round of the CCC Post-Season

WENHAM, Mass. - The Curry College Men's Basketball team was defeated by Gordon College 80-66 Monday evening in the opening round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference post-season.

With the loss, the Colonels close out their season with an overall record of 2-24 and 1-17. With the win, Gordon continues their post-season as they move on to the CCC Quarterfinals.

The contest saw the visiting Colonels put up an impressive first-half performance, staying neck-and-neck with the Fighting Scots. Just past the midway mark in the opening half, both sides were squared at 19 apiece. Gordon's David Massillon and Parker Omslaer then gave their side a four-point lead. Curry's Michael August (Stratford, Conn.) and Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) tallied a shot from the field each paired with a three-pointer from senior guard Seth Foley (Terryville, Conn.) granted the Colonels a slight lead heading into the half. 

The Colonels continued their dominant attacking efforts into the second half. A shot from beyond the arc from Sardegna capped a scoring run from the Colonels who would see as much as an 11-point lead with 15 minutes remaining. The Scots fought back, chipping away at the Colonel's point cushion, taking a two-point lead with under 10 minutes on the clock following a three from Bryce Smith. A quick Curry timeout facilitated a three from Nick Johnson (Athens, Ga.) to reclaim the lead with 6:30 remaining in regulation. Gordon College would take off and score 21 points to Curry's 4 in the final minutes of the contest. Gordon College would take the contest by a final score of 80-66, closing out Curry's season. 

The Colonels were led by Angelo Sardegna (19 pts, 8 reb), JayQuan Leonard (17 pts), and Jonathan Joel (10 pts, 6 reb).
