
MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Men's basketball team fell to conference opponent Salve Regina 71-67 Saturday afternoon at Katz Gymnasium.
With the loss at home, the Colonels fall to 2-14 overall on the season and 1-8 in the conference. With the win on the road, Salve improves to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the CCC.
The afternoon matchup began with both sides deadlocked, neither team attaining a lead larger than seven points through the first half. The visiting Seahawks gained a two-point lead following a layup from Seahawks' Cameron Collins with under a minute remaining in the half. Curry's Todd Robinson Jr. (Brockton, Mass.) knocked down a shot from the field to tie the contest at 33 apiece. With six seconds left on the clock, Salve forward Mikey Spencer tallied another basket to send the visitors into the half up two points; 35-33. The visiting Seahawks shot 51.6% (16-31) from the field while holding Curry to 42.9% (12-28) in the first half. Collins and Spencer led their side with 12 points each. Curry was led by Todd Robinson Jr. who dropped eight points in the opening half.
The second half progressed in the same fashion as the opening period of play. The two sides stayed close until under eight minutes remained. The visitors took off with a ten-point lead following a flurry of points from in the paint. Curry's Todd Robinson Jr. knocked down two three-pointers late in the half, bringing the score to 70-67. The Colonels could not climb back from the slim deficit at the end of the second half, falling to the visiting Salve Regina Seahawks 71-67.
Salve Regina was led by sophomore guard Clay Brochu who recorded 16 points. Also assisting in the win were Mikey Spencer and Cameron Collins who each marked 14 points.
The Colonels were led by Todd Robinson Jr. who marked 19 points. Curry's Angelo Sardegna (Tampa, Fla.) and JayQuan Leonard (Plymouth, Mass.) both tallied 14 points in the loss.
Curry heads back out on the court Tuesday as they travel to Springfield, Mass. to take on the Golden Bears of Western New England for more conference action. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
