Jones and Papalambros Combine for 57 Points, Leading Men's Basketball to a 78-65 Win at Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored 31 points and junior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) added 26 as the Curry College men's basketball team defeated Wentworth, 78-65, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Jones put up 18 in the first half while shooting 7-for-11 from the field, including going 2-for-3 from downtown and also tied for the team lead in assists, with four. Papalambros did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 20 points over the final 20 minutes.

The Wentworth offense came mainly from senior Colin Johnson (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) who led all bench scores and all Leopards with a career-high 23 points on the night. Johnson connected on 4-for-8 shots from behind the three-point arc and didn't miss an attempt at the charity stripe, knocking down all five he attempted. Junior Derek Mayo (Casco, Maine) was the second leading scorer for Wentworth with 13. Mayo led all Leopards with seven rebounds as well.

The early going was back and forth. With the score tied 13-13 in the first half, the Colonels would go a 13-0 run, capped by a Jones jumper to push the lead to 26-13. With just under two minutes left in the half, Wentworth would cut the deficit to as little as five. Jones then scored the last five points of the half pushing the lead to 34-24.

Curry shot at a 54 percent clip in the first half while Wentworth managed to connect on only 34.5 percent of their field goals.

The second half saw Curry push their lead to as many as 16 in the early going. A Matt Harte layup (Troy, N.Y.) would cut the lead down to eight as the Leopards trailed 46-38 with 11 minutes left in the contest.

A Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) jumper would push the lead back to 10 with Curry never looking back.

Wentworth could only push the deficit under double digits again during the fleeting moments of the game as Curry capped the game at 78-65.

Senior Corey Therriault (Auburn, Maine) notched seven points on the night to go along with five rebounds. Sophomore Nico Donato (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished with both six points and six rebounds.

The Leopards (9-7, 5-4) look to snap a two-game losing streak when they return to action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with a home contest against University of New England. Curry (11-5, 8-1) will play at Nichols on Wednesday with that game slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. (Game recap courtesy of WIT Sports Information)
