Men's Basketball Takes Care of Visiting Eastern Nazarene, 72-68

MILTON, Mass. – Junior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 24 points as Curry edged Eastern Nazarene, 72-68, in men’s basketball action Tuesday night in Milton. The Colonels improve to 11-13 overall and 9-8 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action, while the Lions fall to 4-20 overall and 3-14 in CCC play.

Curry took its biggest lead of the first half (24-19) after sophomore Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) sank a shot from beyond to arc with 5:49 on the clock. Eastern Nazarene senior CJ Gonzales (Providence, R.I.) split a pair at the charity stripe with 44 seconds left in the first period to tie the game at 29-29 heading into intermission.

The Colonels opened the second half on a 9-0 run thanks to three straight three-pointers by senior Michael Connery (Narragansett, R.I.). Curry took its biggest lead of the game (64-54) with 6:29 remaining in regulation after freshman Lamar Phillips (Pittsfield, Mass.) sank a pair from the line. The Lions responded with a 12-2 run capped off by a three-pointer from junior Aaron Johnson (Roslindale, Mass.). The Colonels went on to make four-straight free throws and then traded layups to account for the 72-68 final.

In addition to being game-high scorer, Jones also dished out four assists. Connery scored 18 points, while Papalambros chipped in with 12 points and five assists. Sophomore Brian Boyajian (Saugus, Mass.) pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

Eastern Nazarene was led by junior Mike McCoy (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) with 20 points. Gonzales added 13, while senior DeAngelo Alston (West Columbia, S.C.) and junior Chima Ezeigbo (Roanoke, Va.) contributed 12 apiece.
Both teams return to action on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., as the Colonels travel to Wentworth, while the Lions host Endicott.
