Men's Basketball Absorbs 73-61 Loss to CCC Rival UNE
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Men’s Basketball team took a 73-61 loss to the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday night in Milton. The Nor’Easters improve to 4-15 overall and 4-8 in conference action, while the Colonels fall to 8-11 overall and 6-6 in CCC play.

UNE took its biggest lead of the first half (24-11) after senior Brian Jones (Austin, Texas) made a layup with 7:35 on the clock. Curry cut the deficit to two (29-27) with 33 seconds left in the first frame after junior A.J. Stephens (Stamford, Conn.) made a layup.  The Nor’Easters responded with a three-pointer by junior Charles Fenner III (Bronx, N.Y.) with 13 seconds on the clock, extending the lead to five heading into the break.

UNE stretched its lead to 14 points (56-42) after senior Jarryd Rossignol (Caribou, Maine) hit a jumper with just over six minutes to play. The Colonels answered with an 8-1 run capped off with a pair of made free throws by senior Michael Connery (Narragansett, R.I.) with 3:37 remaining in regulation to cut the deficit to seven (57-50). That was as close as Curry would come as the Nor’Easters went on to score 16 of the game’s final 27 points.

Fenner III led UNE with a career-high 31 points, including 8-of-14 from the field (four from beyond the arc) and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. Rossignol chipped in with 13.

The Colonels were led by Stephens with 14 points and eight rebounds. Connery and junior Eric Guglielmello (Paxton, Mass.) added 13 points apiece.

Both teams return to action on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. on the road, as the Nor’Easters visit Gordon and Curry travels to Roger Williams.
