Men's Basketball Picks Up 61-53 Road Win at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass. — The Curry College men’s basketball team picked up a 61-53 road win at Gordon College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game Saturday afternoon in Wenham. The Colonels improved to 8-10 overall and 6-5 in league play, while the Scots dropped to 6-12 overall and 5-6 in conference action.

The Scots showed well offensively in the opening minutes, jumping out to a 9-2 lead with 14:35 on the clock thanks in part to five points from starting guard Park Thomas (So./Scottsdale, Ariz.). That lead would accordion for the remainder of the half, with Curry closing the gap, Gordon expanding it once again, and Curry drawing it to an even 22-22 at the midway point.

With the score close through the first few minutes of the second, the Scots established a healthy eight-point lead over the Colonels with 15:18 on the clock. Refusing to allow any stronger of a foothold by their hosts, the Colonels battled back to within one, behind five points and standout play from A.J. Stephens (Jr,/Stamford, Conn.) in his 2011-2012 season debut.
Gordon surged offensively yet again for an 11-3 run to build a nine-point lead only to have Curry answer right back with 11 uncontested points to take over the lead, 51-49, with just under three to go. And although the Scots would get the lead once more, the Colonels proved too much in the end, after a costly turnover by the Scots in the final minute left Curry to seal the game at the line.

The win for Curry was paced by Sedale Jones (Jr./Pittsfield, Mass.) who recorded 19 points, seven rebounds, and an impressive six steals, while Stephens rounded out the afternoon with 15 points and six boards. Gordon’s effort was led by David Dempsey (Jr./Wallingford, Conn.) with 13 points and nine boards and Alex Carnes (So./Phoenix, Ariz.) who chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.

The Scots will play host to Roger Williams in a conference tilt on Tuesday, January 31 at 8:00 p.m., while Curry will host league foe University of New England on the same night at 8:00 p.m. (Recap courtesy of Gordon Sports Information)
