Men's Basketball Suffers a Last-Second 80-78 Loss to Conference Foe Nichols
MILTON, Mass. – Freshman Matt Langadas (Casco, Maine) hit the game-winning layup with three seconds remaining to give Nichols College an 80-78 victory over Curry College Wednesday evening in Milton. Both teams now stand at 7-10 overall and 5-5 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Curry took its biggest lead of the game (30-12) after freshman Thomas McLean (Paxton, Mass.) made a layup with 8:24 left in the first frame. Nichols went on a 24-9 run over the remainder of the half to cut the deficit to three (39-36) heading into intermission. Sophomore Ryan Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) accounted for 14 points during the run.

The Bison took their first lead (66-64) of the second half with 7:06 on the clock after freshman Marlon Bennett (Stratford, Conn.) sank a shot from beyond the arc. McLean sank a pair from the charity stripe with 2:33 remaining in regulation to tie the game at 75-75. Nichols responded with a Sheehan three-pointer to reclaim the lead. Colonels’ sophomore Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) immediately answered with a three of his own to again tie the game at 78-78. The Bison ran down the game clock over the next 34 seconds, setting up Langadas’ game-winning shot.

Sheehan tied a career-high with 37 points, going 13-for-22 from the floor, and 10-for-11 from the free-throw line. Langadas went 5-for-9 from the field in contributing 11 points.

Curry was led by junior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) with a double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Papalambros added 17 points, while McLean and senior Michael Connery (Narragansett, R.I.) contributed 12 and 10, respectively.
