Men's Basketball Handed a 73-56 Defeat at CCC Rival UNE
BIDDEFORD, Maine - Junior Charles Fenner III (Bronx, N.Y.) and senior Brian Jones (Austin, Texas) registered a combined 19 points in the first half to help the University of New England out to an 18-point (38-20) lead at the break, on its way to a 73-56 victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Monday evening at James A. Beaudry Gymnasium.

Winners of three of their last four, the Nor'easters (3-13) move to 3-6 in CCC games. The Colonels see a three-game win streak come to an end, falling back to 7-9 overall (5-4 CCC).

Fenner III paced UNE with a season-best 19 points and three triples. Senior Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) had four of UNE's 11 treys and finished with 13, while junior Alex Alsadi (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added 12 on 6-of-8 shooting.

Brian Jones accumulated all of his points in the first frame, going 3-of-4 from the field and hitting both of his tries from deep. Senior Ryan Knotek (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and first-year Jordan Ferreira (Nantucket, Mass.) ended with eight points apiece, and had the two highest rebound totals for the Nor'easters with 12 and seven, respectively. As a team, UNE out-rebounded its opponent, 44-38.

For Curry, junior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) dropped in a game-high 20 points and grabbed a team-best seven caroms. After a slow start in the opening 20 minutes, he scored 18 in the final period.

The Nor'easters methodically built their lead during the first half, and a three-point play by Brian Jones with 35 seconds left in the frame brought the margin to its largest (18 points) at intermission.

The Colonels twice reduced the margin down to 11 (40-29, 49-38) in the initial 11 minutes of the second half, but could not get any closer.

Three-pointers quickly started falling for both squads, as 24 of the 32 points were converted from behind the arc. However, the offensive outburst was split between the teams, and UNE came out of the stretch with a 67-52 cushion and 2:27 on the clock. Curry senior Michael Connery (Narragansett, R.I.) knocked down a trio of shots from long distance as play opened up, and tallied 10 of his 13 points in the period.

UNE is back in action on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) with a home contest against Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Colonels will also be hosting a matchup that night, as Nichols College pays a visit to Milton. (Recap courtesy of UNE Sports Information)
