Men's Basketball Suffers 68-58 Loss to Visiting Wheelock

MILTON, Mass. – Junior center Eric Rice (Woburn, MA) scored a game-high 21 points as visiting Wheelock upended Curry, 68-58, in men’s basketball action Thursday night in Milton. The Wildcats improved to 4-3 while handing the Colonels (1-7) their sixth-straight defeat.

Curry went on an 8-0 run midway through the first frame to build an 11-point lead (23-12). The run began with a layup by junior guard Michael Connery (Narragansett, RI) and was capped off with a three-pointer from sophomore guard Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, MA). The Colonels took their biggest lead of the half (27-14) after a shot from beyond the arc by junior forward Chris Brown (Boston, MA). Wheelock chipped away throughout the rest of the period to cut the deficit to six (33-27) at intermission.

In the second half, the Wildcats took their second lead of the game (46-45) with 7:28 remaining in regulation after a layup by sophomore forward Bashir Hudson (Jamaica Plain, MA). Curry responded with a layup from senior forward Chris Bonadies (Medfield, MA) to retake the lead. A three-pointer by Wheelock junior guard Max Kaim (Fort Lauderdale, FL) gave the visitors the lead once again. Jones made a layup with a foul and converted on the free throw to give the Colonels their last lead of the game (50-49) with 6:37 left on the clock. The Wildcats then went on to score 19 of the last 27 points to secure the win.

In addition to Rice’s game-high 21, Wheelock got 14 points from Kaim and 13 points from senior forward Daniel Main (Hopedale, MA). Hudson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Curry was led by Jones with 14 points. Worrick chipped in with 12. Bonadies led the Colonels on the glass with a game-high nine boards.

Wheelock resumes play this Saturday, playing a 1:00 p.m. contest at Daniel Webster. Curry is off until January 2, traveling to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania for a 6:00 p.m. game at King’s College.
