Losing Skid Reaches Five as Men's Basketball Falls to Newbury, 74-63
MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Newbury got double figures in scoring from all five starters, and picked up its first win of the season, 74-63 over Curry, in men’s basketball action Saturday night in Milton. 

In a closely-contested first half, Newbury took the biggest lead of the period (24-17) with 6:09 remaining after a layup by freshman forward Justin Franks (Mamaroneck, NY). Curry (1-6) pulled ahead after a 10-2 run that began with a three-pointer by freshman forward Kenny Hull (Somerset, MA) and was capped off with a three-point play by Hull with 3:39 left in the first frame. The Nighthawks reclaimed the lead (28-27) on a layup by sophomore guard Chris Torres (Brockton, MA). With 16 seconds remaining in the first half, a pair of free throws by Colonels’ junior guard Michael Connery (Narrangansett, RI) gave Curry a 34-32 edge at intermission.

Newbury shot 52% from the field in the second half, and took the lead for good (38-36) with 16:50 remaining in regulation after a layup by sophomore forward Peterson Bernard (Boston, MA). With 3:06 left in the half, Curry tied the game at 61-61 after a jumper by junior forward Chris Brown (Boston, MA), but the visitors ended the game on a 13-2 run that iced the victory.

Senior guard John Rowley, Jr. (Hartford, CT) and freshman guard Eric Watson (New Rochelle, NY) led the Nighthawks with 15 points apiece. Bernard added 14 while Torres and sophomore guard Timothy Young (Brockton, MA) each contributed 13. Bernard pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

The Colonels were led by Hull with a game-high 16 points. Sophomore guard Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, MA) chipped in with 14, and led Curry on the glass with eight rebounds.

Newbury resumes play on December 7 with an 8:00 p.m. game at Regis. Curry’s next game is on December 9, a 7:00 p.m. home contest against Wheelock.
