Football Loses Heartbreaker Against Husson

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College was defeated 35-34 by Husson University in a Conference of New England football matchup Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 2-5 and a 0-2 record in conference play.

The Colonels scored on the opening drive, with Colin Ridley (Peabody, Mass.) catching a 55-yard pass from Michael Moriarty (Rockland, Mass.) to set up Finn Sullivan (Newburyport, Mass.) who took the direct snap and ran the ball in for a touchdown, putting the home team on top 7-0 three minutes into the contest.

The Moriarty to Ridley connection continued to have a major impact on the game in the first half, with Ridley scoring a pair of 49 and 48-yard receiving touchdowns to put the Colonels in front 20-13 heading into halftime.

Montie Quinn (Goose Creek S.C.) exploded in the second half, rushing for two touchdowns and a game-high total of 258 yards. He rushed 33 times for an average of 7.8 yards per carry with a long of 20 yards.

Quinn's second touchdown put the Colonels on top 34-27 with 1:54 seconds remaining in regulation. Unfortunately for Curry, the Eagles put together a seven-play, 75-yard drive to score a touchdown. The visitors then converted on a two-point conversion to take a one-point lead. Ronin McNamara (East Lyme, Conn.), who entered at quarterback after Moriarty was injured in the first half, took the field with under 20 seconds on the game clock and threw an interception to Husson's Kane Smith to end the game.

Ridley ended with a total of 155 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions while Moriarty finished 6-for-9 with 176 yards and two passing touchdowns despite going down before halftime.

Adem Kica (Oxford, Conn.) paced the Colonels' defense with 14 tackles while Tyler David (Everett, Mass.) finished with 13. Lucas Leander (Rockland, Mass.) added a forced fumble to his eight tackles while Curry's special teams blocked a pair of extra point attempts.

Curry College returns to conference play with a road matchup against the University of New England beginning at 1 p.m.
