Football Beaten by Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Curry College was defeated 47-21 by Western New England University in a Conference of New England football game Saturday morning at Golden Bear Stadium.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 2-4 and a conference record of 0-1.

Curry jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, barreling down the field and scoring on a 39-yard touchdown reception from Michael Moriarty (Rockland, Mass.) to Colin Ridley (Peabody, Mass.) just one minute and 35 seconds into the contest.

Ridley found the endzone again halfway through the second quarter, capping off a nine-play, 54-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Moriarty.

The Colonels wouldn't score again until halfway through the fourth quarter when Moriarty ran in a five-yard rushing touchdown to close out a seven-play, 71-yard drive that ate up 4:05 off the game clock.

Ridley finished with six receptions for 131 yards and two touchdowns while Moriarty went 15-23 for a completion percentage of 65.2%, 225 yards, and two touchdowns. Montie Quinn (Goose Creek, S.C.) rushed 15 times for a net total of 44 yards and a long of 18.

Adem Kica (Oxford, Conn.) led the Colonels defensively with 14 total tackles while Max Ackerman (Nashua, N.H.) added a forced fumble in addition to his seven tackles.

Curry College returns to conference play on Saturday, October 26th, for a home game against Husson beginning at 2:30 p.m.
