Milton, MA - The Curry Football team took on one of the toughest challenges in program history on Saturday, as they hosted #13 Hardin-Simmons in the home opener at Katz Field. The Colonels would fall to their nationally ranked opponent 73-21, moving to 0-2 on the season, while the Cowboys are now 2-0.
The scoring began in an unusual manner, as the Colonels saw a punt snap go over the punter's head, through the back of the endzone for a safety just two minutes into the game. After a touchdown later in the quarter by the Cowboys, it was 9-0. Another snap over the punter's head would result in another safety for HSU. They would then score touchdowns on each of their next five possessions to make it 46-0. The Colonels would then get on the board on a Montie Quinn 11-yard touchdown with 26 seconds remaining in the half, his first of the year. The score was 46-7 at the break.
The Colonels would score twice in the fourth quarter, first on an eight-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Agosti to Finn Sullivan. It was the first passing touchdown, and first receiving touchdown of their respective careers. Agosti would have another first, his first rushing touchdown, later in the quarter, scoring on a three-yard run that saw him go airborne over the goal line.
Starting QB Michael Moriarty went 9-23 in the air, for 91 yards. In relief, Agosti went a perfect 7-7 for 69 yards and the touchdown. Montie Quinn had some great runs, making defenders miss, eventually finishing the day with 55 yards on 16 attempts. Four different Colonels finished with at least 25 yards receiving, led by Matthew Bowen's 41. Colin Ridley had 117 kickoff return yards across three returns, highlighted by a 63-yard return in the second half. Adem Kica led the defense with eight tackles.
Up Next - The Colonels will head back out on the road next week when they go to Dean for a 12pm game.
