Football Earns Five CCC All-Conference Nods

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Five student-athletes from the Curry College football team earned All-Conference selections from the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The announcement came from the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior James Nyamwaya (Andover, Mass.) was Curry's lone First Team selection, earning a spot as a defensive lineman. Four players earned Second Team selections: junior Gabe DeSouza (Everett, Mass.) as a wide receiver, senior Gregory Silvia (Coventry, R.I.) as a linebacker, senior Geoffrey Wilson (North Attleboro, Mass.) as a punter, and sophomore Bailey Smith (Wilmington, Mass.) as a special teams utility player.

Nyamwaya was Curry's second-leading tackler in 2021, racking up 61 tackles on the season, including 22 of the solo variety. He finished the year with one sack, four tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. On September 20, he was named the CCC's Co-Defensive Player of the Week.

DeSouza led Curry and tied for second in the CCC with eight touchdown receptions this season. Despite missing two games on the season, he still finished the year as Curry's top receiver with 46 catches for 539 yards. His strongest performance came in the season finale on November 13, when he caught 14 passes for 158 yards and an astounding four touchdowns.

Silvia finished his final campaign in a Curry uniform as the team's leading tackler, compiling 70 total tackles, including 33 solo. He had one sack, a team-high five tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one interception, and one blocked kick.

Wilson averaged 37.7 yards per punt in 2021, ranking third on the conference. His longest punt of the year came in at 53 yards, and he pinned punts inside the 20-yard line on six occasions.

Rounding out Curry's All-CCC selections was Smith, who finished fifth on the Colonels with 40 tackles on the season. He recorded 1.5 sacks, four tackles for loss, and two pass breakups on the year.
