NEWPORT, R.I. - The Curry College football team had no answers for the high-powered offense of Salve Regina University Saturday afternoon, falling to the Seahawks by a final score of 47-14 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Toppa Field.

With the defeat, Curry drops to 2-5 overall on the season and 0-4 in the CCC.

Salve found the end zone on three occasions in the first quarter before the Colonels eventually punched one in themselves. Freshman Edison Thompson (El Dorado, Ark.) punched one in from two yards out with 50 seconds remaining in the first quarter to put the Colonels on the board.

Just before heading to the locker room for half time, Curry added another score when senior quarterback Justin Mullaney (Danvers, Mass.) connected with junior Gabe DeSouza (Everett, Mass.) for a 17-yard touchdown to cut the Curry deficit to 26-14.

The second half however was all Seahawks, as the hosts notched 21 unanswered points to cruise to the convincing victory.

Freshman linebacker Ryan Eldridge (Guilford, Conn.) had a breakout performance for the Colonel defense on the afternoon, notching 10 tackles to lead the team. The rookie entered the day with just three tackles all season. He had one tackle for loss on Saturday afternoon and one fumble recovery.

Curry will be back in action next Saturday with a home contest against Nichols College at Walter M. Katz Field. Kickoff from Milton is slated for 1 p.m.
