Football Slated Fifth in CCC Football Preseason Coaches' Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry College football team is predicted to finish fifth as determined by the Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Western New England University checked in at the top spot in the poll with 59 points and five first-place votes. The Golden Bears have won four straight league titles, two in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) and the two in CCC Football. Capturing the final three first-place votes and landing in second place was Endicott with 54 points. Conference newcomer Husson (49), Salve Regina (44), and Curry (26) closed out the top five.

Nichols (24), the University of New England (20), and Becker (12) round out the bottom portion of the poll.

This year, the Colonels return junior running back Zach Levy (Bellingham, Mass.), who was tabbed as a All-CCC Football First Team Offensive selection following last season. Also on offense, Curry returns senior wide receiver Nick Villanueva (Hanson, Mass.) (captain), another All-CCC Football Offensive selection. The Colonels also welcome back senior quarterback Nick Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y.) and five offensive starters, in addition to Levy, Juvelier, and Villanueva.

On defense, Curry brings back senior captains Hunter Atwood (Reading, Mass.) and Ted Flaherty (Hanover, Mass.). Atwood was an All-CCC Football First Team defensive selection and was a one-time CCC Football Defensive Player of the Week selection. In addition to Atwood, the Colonels return four defensive starters.

Curry opens the 2019 season on Friday, September 6 at home against Stevenson University at 7:00 p.m.
