McCarthy, Alksninis Earn NEFC Player of the Week Awards

MILTON, Mass. - Senior linebacker Kevin McCarthy has been named as New England Football Conference (NEFC) Defensive Player of the Week, and senior placekicker/punter Matt Alksninis has been named as NEFC Special Teams Player of the Week for their performances in Curry's 24-21 overtime win at Plymouth State on November 6.

McCarthy, a team captain from Foxboro, Mass., finished his NEFC career in a big way. He amassed a game and career high 22 tackles (16 solo), and made a game-saving tackle in overtime on fourth-and-goal at the one-yard line to preserve the Colonels' victory. Among his 22 hits were a pair for lost yardage (-4 yards).

Alksninis, a native of Mansfield, Mass., kicked the game-winning 37-yard field goal in overtime, part of an all-around excellent day of kicking and punting. He was also 3-for-3 in PATs, had four kickoffs with a 60.2-yard average, and punted eight times with a 41.6-yard average (including three inside the 20).
