Baseball Slugfest Ends in Loss Against Framingham

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College baseball was defeated 14-12 by Framingham State University in a high-scoring contest where the opponents combined for 29 hits Thursday afternoon at Jack Vallely Diamond.

With the loss, the Colonels' overall record slides to 8-19 while remaining 4-9 in conference

Trailing 7-0 heading into the bottom of the second, the Colonels got one run back in the bottom of the second and three in the third off a three-run homer by Brandon Mantilla-Mercado, who leads the Colonels with four home runs on the season, all of them hit in the last six games.

After picking up another run off a throwing error in the fifth, the Colonels exploded for six runs in the following inning which included a home run by Tommy Marshall, a two-run single from Devin Grove, and a bases-clearing double from Bobby Marshall with the bases loaded to tie the game at 11-11.

Curry took a 12-11 lead in the bottom of the seventh off a home run that bounced off the top of the fence in right-center by George Calderon, his first of the season. Unfortunately for the home team, the Rams took advantage of a pair of Curry errors in the top of the ninth, taking the lead and putting the game out of reach.

The Colonels employed the use of six different pitchers, combining for 10 strikeouts throughout the game. Marshall Ingram paved the way with five strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.

Curry College returns to non-conference action with a road matchup against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Friday, April 25th, beginning at 3 p.m.
