Baseball Drops Senior Day Doubleheader Vs Suffolk

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College was defeated by Suffolk University in both games of a Conference of New England baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Jack Vallely Diamond

With the losses, the Colonels' overall record slides to 8-17 and a conference record of 4-8.

GAME ONE: Suffolk 6, Curry 3

Brandon Mantilla-Mercado had both of the Colonels' RBIs in the first game of the day, starting with a groundout in the bottom of the first that scored a runner from third and gave Curry a 1-0 lead. The junior catcher wasn't done, hitting a solo home run over the left field wall to put the Colonels on top 2-0, making three games in a row with a home run for Mantilla-Mercado.

Curry held a 2-1 lead through eight innings when the Rams made a comeback, scoring five runs through the eighth and ninth innings to steal the game from the home team. Reegan Thomas drove in a run in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough to make the comeback.

Tommy Marshall pitched eight solid innings for the Colonels, striking out 11 batters while allowing just two earned runs.

GAME TWO: Suffolk 18, Curry 3

The Rams' bats came out swinging to start the second game of the day, jumping out to an early lead on the Colonels. It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth that the Colonels first appeared on the scoreboard with a Michael Desroches RBI single driving in a runner from third.

Brandon Polanco scored another run the following inning with an RBI double to left field, while Bobby Marshall reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh to drive in the Colonels' third and final run of the contest.

Curry College returns home on Tuesday, April 22nd, to take on Roger Williams at 3:30 p.m.
