
MILTON, Mass. - Curry College baseball was defeated in both games of a Conference of New England doubleheader against Gordon College, losing game one 4-1 and game two 6-5 Friday afternoon at Jack Vallely Diamond.
With the losses, the Colonels drop to an overall record of 5-10 on the season.
GAME ONE: Gordon 4, Curry 1
The Colonels' only run was scored in the bottom of the first inning, starting with a leadoff walk by George Calderon, who advanced to second on an error by the shortstop. Tommy Marshall scored Calderon from second off an RBI single to right field, giving Curry a 1-0 lead.
Marshall pitched all seven innings for the Colonels, striking out nine batters while allowing just four hits and three earned runs.
GAME TWO: Gordon 6, Curry 5
Calderon opened the bottom of the first with a leadoff double to centerfield, followed by a Reegan Thomas walk on the following at-bat. With runners on second and third, Kyle Doolin forced an error by the pitcher, scoring a pair of runs and putting Curry on top 2-0.
After going down 3-2, Curry took back the lead in the bottom of the third when Thomas singled to lead off the inning and Doolin reached on a Gordon error. Nick Krise doubled to the gap in left-center field, scoring a pair of runs and giving the Colonels a 4-2 lead.
Trailing by one in the bottom of the seventh, Marshall doubled to right field to put a runner in scoring position for Doolin, who lined a single to the gap in right-center to tie the game at 5-5 and send it to extra innings.
Gordon scored a run in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead over Curry that the home team would not be able to overcome in the bottom half of the inning.
Henry Marino started on the mound for the Colonels, allowing zero earned runs while striking out two batters through four innings pitched
Curry College returns to action on Sunday, March 30th, in a road game against Dean beginning at noon.
