Cam Barry Hits Walk-Off Home Run Against Hartford

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College won game one of a doubleheader against Hartford University with a walk-off home run in a collegiate baseball game at Jack Valley Baseball Diamond on Sunday morning.

GAME ONE: Curry 7, Hartford 6

In the bottom of the seventh inning, singles from Drew Fagala (San Antonio, Texas) and Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) put runners on first and third, with a wild pitch allowing Fagala to score, leaving Curry trailing 6-5. A sacrifice fly by Erik Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) tied the game at 6-6 leaving the bases empty. With two outs and the score tied, Cam Barry (Manchester, Conn.) smashed a solo home run over the left field fence to complete the comeback and give the Colonels a dramatic walk-off victory.

With two outs and a runner on first in the bottom of the fifth, Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.) smacked a double to score Daniela Peña (Queens, N.Y.) who had reached on an infield single earlier in the inning. Heggs was driven in later in the inning by a single down the right-field line by Marshall to score Curry's second run.

Back-to-back walks put runners at first and second in the bottom of the sixth inning, setting up Tino Gagliardi (Cromwell, Conn.) who singled to right field to load the bases. Peña reached on a fielder's choice on the next at-bat, scoring the third Colonel run. A throwing error by the catcher allowed Barry to score from third leaving Curry trailing 6-4.

GAME TWO: Hartford 6, Curry 1

Barry singled up the middle of the infield to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning and advanced to second base on a balk by the pitcher. Gagliardi was hit by a pitch, followed by a wild pitch that put runners at second and third. On the following at-bat, Peña slapped a single to left field, allowing Barry to score from third.

Curry College (5-21, 0-6 CCC) returns to action on Tuesday, April 23rd, with a home game against Roger Williams beginning at 3 p.m.
