Baseball Snaps Losing Streak Against Monks

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College broke a 19-game losing streak to defeat Saint Joseph's College of Maine 5-3 Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate baseball game at Jack Valley Baseball Diamond.

With the victory, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 4-19 while the conference record remains 0-6.

Trailing by one run in the bottom of the eighth inning, Aidan Finnegan (Amsterdam, Netherlands) got the ball rolling with a triple that soared over the centerfielder's head. Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) walked on the ensuing at-bat to set up Daniel Peña (Queens, N.Y.), who laid down a perfect bunt to reach first, score a run, and tie the game at 3-3. A walk by George Calderon (New York, N.Y.) loaded the bases for Drew Fagala (San Antonio, Texas), who knocked a line drive single over the second baseman's outstretched glove to drive in the two go-ahead runs.

Brandon Prescod (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was effective in relief for the Colonels, getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the eighth and closing out the top of the ninth to earn the win and the save for Curry.

Zachary McCarthy (Plympton, Mass) was responsible for the first Colonel run in the bottom of the second inning, hitting a single to center field to allow Peña to score from third. Fagala finished the day going 3-for-5 with three RBIs including the second Curry run in the bottom of the second inning off an RBI single up the middle of the field. Finnegan also had a notable performance, scoring twice while going 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.

Curry College returns to action on Wednesday, April 17th, with a road matchup against Lesley beginning at 7 p.m.
