Baseball Drop DH to RIC

Milton, MA - In a non-conference matchup, the Curry baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader to Rhode Island College on Saturday, falling to 3-16 on the season, while the Anchormen move to 12-10.

Game One

In the first game of the day, the Anchormen struck first in the first inning, scoring on a double steal. They would then add three runs in both the second and third innings to go up 7-0. The Colonels struggled to get the offense going, only collecting one hit until the final inning. In the final inning, the seventh Kyle Doolin would put the Colonels on the board with an RBI double. But it wasn't enough, as the Colonels fell 7-1.

Marshall Ingram played a huge role on the mound, helping to save the bullpen by pitching 4.2 innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three. Kyle DeBoer was given the loss, allowing four runs over the first 1.2 innings of the game.

Game Two

The Colonels had no issues with the offense in the second game, as they opened the scoring in the first on an Erik Leonard sacrifice fly. They would then double their lead on a George Calderon RBI single in the second. After RIC cut the lead in half, Kyle Doolin knocked home two runs in the third on a single to make it 4-1. A Calderon homer in the fourth then made it 5-1. The Anchormen then hit back-to-back homeruns in the sixth to make it 5-3, but a wild pitch in the sixth gave the Colonels a 6-3 lead. Just three outs away from victory, the Colonels saw the bases loaded against them with nobody out. A hit by pitch gave RIC a run, and then the Colonels conceded another run to turn a double play. With the tying run on third, RIC tied things up on a wild pitch, sending the game to extra innings. Rhode Island would score twice in the eighth, and took the win 8-6.

The Colonels had six hits, with Calderon and Doolin each having two. Andrew Hammer did a great job on the mound as the Curry starter, going 5.2 innings, allowing the three runs. Justin Schloss was handed the loss after going 1.1 innings in relief.
