Colonels Swept by Suffolk

EAST BOSTON, Mass. - The Curry College Baseball team was swept by Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Suffolk University in a conference doubleheader on the road Saturday afternoon.

With the losses, Curry closes its regular season with a 10-27 record overall and 4-27 in the CCC.

 

Game 1 - Curry 3, Suffolk 5

The Colonels struck first in the first matchup of the day, junior shortstop Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) notching a two-RBI single to send Brandon Polanco (Brownsville, N.Y.) and Tino Gagliardi (Cromwell, Conn.) in to score, pushing the Colonels to a 2-0 lead. 

The hosting Rams responded in the bottom of the third on an inside-the-park grand slam to take a 4-2 lead over the Colonels. 

Freshman designated hitter, Chris Faraca (Peabody, Mass.) batted in Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.) on a single to right field to close in on the hosts' lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Suffolk would take a two-run lead over Curry in the bottom of the fifth while holding the Colonels to just three additional hits and no runs, claiming the opening matchup, 5-3.

Curry's Ryan Goonan paced his side with a hit and two RBIs in the loss.

 

Game 2 - Curry 3, Suffolk 7

Curry tallied its first run on the board in the top of the third inning on a George Calderon (New York, N.Y.) sacrifice fly to drive Brandon Polanco in to score. 

Four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning granted the hosts a 4-1 lead over the visiting Colonels. 

Curry's Ryan Goonan would notch an RBI on a fielder's choice, allowing Conor Hanlon (Beverly, Mass.) to score, closing in on the Rams' lead. 

A Joan Peralta (Brownsville, N.Y.) home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning brought Curry within one run of the hosting Rams.

Suffolk would push its lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth on three hits. 

The visiting Colonels would notch just one additional hit and no runs, falling to Suffolk 7-3 in the second matchup of the Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader.
