MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College baseball team snapped a four-game skid Thursday afternoon, defeating Emerson College 6-2 in non-conference action at Jack Vallely Diamond.

With the win, Curry moves back to .500 on the season at 8-8 overall.

The Colonels opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning on the first collegiate home run from freshman Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.), a solo blast over the right field wall. Later in the inning, sophomore Joan Peralta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) would trot home on a wild pitch to extend Curry's lead to two.

A solo home run in the top of the third and an RBI single in the top of the fourth briefly pulled Emerson back even, but a run-scoring groundout from James Jackson (Seekonk, Mass.) put Curry back ahead in the bottom of the fourth, a lead that would hold up for the remainder of the contest.

Curry pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 5-2. Graduate student Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.) recorded an RBI double to plate Brandon Polanco (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.

The hosts plated their final run in the bottom of the eighth when Peralta came home from third on a 6-3 double play.

On the hill, freshman Tommy Marshall (Hanson, Mass.) earned his first collegiate win by allowing two earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts over six innings. Sophomore Ryan Kirkpatrick (Cumberland, R.I.) threw three shutout innings in relief to earn the save.

Curry will be back in action on Saturday, hosting Nichols College for a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at Vallely Diamond. First pitch in game one is slated for 11 a.m.
