BOSTON, Mass. – Suffolk baseball's comeback was punctuated with a walk-off single RBI from Sean Cameron that sent the Rams past Curry, 7-6, in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 7, Curry 6
RECORDS: Suffolk (17-8) | Curry (9-15)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Curry scattered six hits over the first five innings with the Rams offensive stuck in neutral. The blue-and-gold started to pick things up in the home half of the fifth thanks to a sac fly from Matt Brenner that brought in Kevin Higgins, who led off with a single.
A scoreless sixth was followed was followed by three-run seventh from Suffolk. With the bases loaded thanks to a walk from Seth Coiley and singles to by Brenner and Curtis Tirone, Zach Grogan started a scoring rally with an RBI double. A RBI ground out from Kevin Belskie followed and before BJ Neil's perfectly placed bunt let Grogan come in to trim the margin to 6-4 after seven.
The game locked in the bottom of the eighth at 6-all. Brenner's single to left brought Brady Chant home who reached on a single to make it a one-run game and a fielder's choice two hitters later let Sean Cameron come home to even the ball game.
Curry sandwiched two walks around two outs in the ninth, Suffolk's defense kept its fate in its own hands with a fly out to left, setting up Cameron's heroics.
Neil started the action with a barrel up the middle and moved over thanks to a sac bunt from Higgins. After the Colonels intentionally walked Chant, the runners stole third and second, respectively, to get in better scoring position. Cameron's shot up the middle was all the Rams need as Neil strutted home for the winning-run.
