PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Curry College Baseball team snapped an 11-game losing skid, shutting out Rhode Island College, 5-0, in non-conference action played at Anchorman Field on Thursday afternoon. Curry ups its record to 7-22, while Rhode Island College falls to 10-14 for the year.

The Colonels mounted an eight-hit attack against the Rhode Island College pitching staff, and feasted on a sloppy defensive effort by the Anchormen that featured six errors.

The Colonels tagged sophomore left-hander Angelo St. Laurent (Cranston, RI) for two unearned runs in the top of the second, keyed by an RBI single from freshman third baseman Tyler Armstrong (Eliot, ME), before unloading for three runs in the sixth en route to the five-run advantage. Junior right fielder R.J. McCann's (Brockton, MA) two-run single down the left field line highlighted the sixth inning scoring surge for the visitors.

Meanwhile, the Anchormen mustered just three hits against the Curry pitching staff, which was led by junior right-hander Thomas Fitzpatrick (South Boston, MA). Fitzpatrick (2-5) fanned four batters in six shutout innings and allowed just three hits along the way.

Freshman left-hander Ben Carrasco (San Francisco, CA) was perfect through the final three innings for Curry, as the rookie retired nine straight batters in relief of Fitzpatrick en route to his second save of the season.

On the other end, St. Laurent scattered just one unearned run on seven hits and one walk in 5.1 innings of work, while striking out three in the loss (0-2).

Freshman right-hander Jake Roy (Seekonk, MA) was perfect through 1.2 innings of work in relief of St. Laurent, while classmate right-hander Steven Perfetto (Johnston, RI) followed with a perfect eighth inning.

Junior right-hander Joe Brooks (Pawtucket, RI) conceded just one hit in an otherwise perfect ninth inning on the hill.

McCann went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored to pace the Colonels, while junior first baseman Tanner Givens (Hamden, CT) also added a pair of hits in the win.
