MILTON, Mass. – Senior Creed Mangrum (Sandy, Utah) belted three home runs and drove in seven, leading visiting M.I.T. to a 14-0 win over Curry in non-conference baseball action Monday afternoon in Milton. The Engineers improve to 14-8 on the season while the Colonels fall to 6-22.
Sophomore Nate Rodman (Corvallis, Ore.) went 5-for-5, accounting for one quarter of M.I.T.'s 20-hit attack. Sophomore starting pitcher Alan Wang (Paoli, Pa.) spun a one-hit shutout, walking none while striking out three over seven innings to improve to 3-1.
Curry's lone hit came off the bat of junior Derek Pizarro (Cambridge, Mass.) who stroked a one-out single to right field in the bottom of the sixth.
Freshman starter Vincent LoPriore (Boston, Mass.) took the loss to fall to 1-3. In four innings of work, he allowed 12 hits, three walks and five earned runs while fanning three.
The Engineers return home on Tuesday, hosting conference rival W.P.I. in a single game starting at 3:30 p.m. The Colonels travel to Bridgewater State on Wednesday for a non-league tilt with a 3:00 p.m. start time.
