Baseball Edged By Visiting Framingham State, 4-3
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Baseball team took a 3-2 lead into the ninth inning, but visiting Framingham State University scored twice to notch a 4-3 win in non-conference play in Milton on Thursday. The Rams improved to 24-13 on the season and Curry fell to 14-21.

The Colonels put a run on the board in the first inning when freshman R.J. McCann (Brockton, MA) dropped a sacrifice bunt allowing sophomore Matt O'Neill (Milton, MA) to score.

In the third and fifth innings, they would tack on two more runs when O’Neill and Mike DeLosSantos (Waterford, CT) each scored on unearned runs to complete the Colonels scoring for the game.

The Rams scoring began with two outs in the second inning when freshman Sean Parker (Hudson, MA) singled to left field scoring classmate Mark Mainini (Hull, MA) from third base. They would put another run on the board in the fifth when senior Chris Blydell (Lynn, MA) scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Pedro Acevedo (Fall River, MA) to trim Curry’s lead to 3-2.

In the top of the ninth, an Acevedo double to left field with one out scored pinch-runner Ivan Colon (Waltham, MA) from first base to tie the game. A Mainini single up the middle would then score the designated hitter Acevedo from second to give Framingham State the lead.

Freshmen Ryan Bowen (Hudson, MA) would get the win for the Rams, pitching four innings of shutout ball, giving up only two hits and striking out five and improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Colonels used eight pitchers in the game. Junior Corey Pierro (Essex, MA) would take the loss for the Colonels, pitching one inning and giving up two runs on three hits while striking out and walking one. His record is now 3-2 on the season.

The Colonels are off until Saturday and will host Wentworth in a 12 p.m. conference doubleheader. The Rams are back in action on Saturday as well, traveling to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a conference twin bill beginning at 1 p.m.
