MILTON, Mass. – Curry College fell to visiting M.I.T., 10-5, in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon in Milton. The Engineers improved to 8-7, while the Colonels fell to 5-10.

Sophomore Patrick Dayton (Archer City, Texas) scored the first run for M.I.T. with a solo homerun to center. Classmate Creed Mangrum (Sandy, Utah) would help the Engineers tack on two more runs in the first with an RBI and run score to take a 3-0 lead.

After holding Curry scoreless in the bottom of the frame, M.I.T. extended its lead to 5-0 in the second after senior Torre Swanson (Redding, Calif.) hit an RBI single to second and junior James McKinney (Wakefield, R.I.) hit a sacrifice fly to left.

In the third, freshman Matt Warren (Wilbraham, Mass.) brought home senior David Stephens (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) with a single down the right field line. The Engineers added another run in the third and one more in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.

The Colonels had a four-run seventh inning to pull within two. The first run came when freshman Tanner Givens (Hamden, Conn.) took advantage of a wild pitch and crossed home plate. The final three came when junior Matt Rodriguez (Quincy, Mass.) hit a two-RBI double to left field and was later brought home when sophomore Kyle Connors (Stoughton, Mass.) singled to left.

M.I.T. responded with a three-run eighth inning, highlighted by senior Bryan Macomber’s two-RBI single to center. Both teams were held hitless and scoreless in the final 1 1/2 innings of play.

Freshman KJ Parent (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded his first win on the season, allowing one run and five hits while striking out three in six innings of work. Sophomore Matt O’ Neill (Milton, Mass.) went three innings on the mound, giving up five earned runs in falling to 0-2.
